The Capricorn Singers are proud to announce their supported charity for 2013 as Hug in a Bag.

Since 2006, Hug in a Bag have been providing Help, Understanding and Glamour (HUG) in the form of a bag containing gifts, information leaflets and discount vouchers to every person diagnosed with breast cancer in Sunderland.  After hearing of the charity through a close friend, Deborah Marr and Jacqueline Rhodes contacted the organisation in Sunderland and, with their support, brought the charity to Blackpool in 2012.

Blackpool has high rates of breast cancer diagnosis, with around 300 women and four men every year given the devastating news. Hug in a Bag aims to provide every person diagnosed in Blackpool with a bag to show their understanding and support during their treatment.

Following a hugely successful first year in Blackpool and having raised over £12,000, the first set of bags were provided to the breast care nurses at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in November 2012.

The Capricorn Singers will be donating all profits to Hug in a Bag from every concert managed and arranged by The Capricorn Singers during 2013 and will be supporting HUG fundraising events.

If you would like to make a donation to Hug in a Bag you can either visit https://localgiving.com/huginabag or hand your donation to any one of the ladies in the choir.

You can find out more about Hug in a Bag on their website at: http://www.huginabag.com

After 15 wonderful years as Musical Director of The Capricorn Singers we are very sad to announce that David J Murphy will shortly be leaving for pastures new.

David has driven the choir to great heights during his tenure.  He has presided over almost 200 concerts and appearances; including two performances at The Royal Albert Hall.  He has also introduced many new and innovative practices along the way.  We are possibility the only local choir with a considerable number of members having disposed of paper copies in favour of using personal tablet computers with digitised music and practice tracks.

He leaves the choir in great shape with 35 members, a strong and supportive committee, an entertaining and lively music repertoire and many great memories.

We wish David all the very best for the future and will miss him greatly.
