Stagewear Muster

16/6/2010

The ladies have decided it's time to have a sort out of their stagewear wardrobe.  I think they are just making room for a new outfit!

The muster will take place on Wednesday 30th June 2010.  For choir members unable to attend they should make alternate arrangements.

If your choir or similar organisation is interested in this well maintained ex-stagewear stock, please contact us before it hits ebay!

Stage Makeup Tips

Below are some useful tips from Alison (Sop 2) when it comes to applying your stage make up.  Does this apply to David as well?

If the event is special then the make-up should be special.  An event like the concert takes place under artificial light, so we need to consider the effects of artificial lighting when choosing make-up products and colours.

The strong, artificial lighting that floods the stage drains a lot of colour out of the make-up and this has to be compensated for with warmer shades of foundation and bolder colours for eyes and lips, which will add contours to the face, defining the eyes and mouth.  Exciting colour combinations, high gloss and pearlised products and even false lashes may be used to help achieve the desired effect.  The important point is contrast, as natural contours are lost under artificial light and so need to be restored by using contrasting products.  However, pearlised products when applied to crepey or wrinkled skin will accentuate the effect, so these should be avoided on mature skin.  Eyeliner accentuates the eyes, and an alternative to eyeliner pencil, is using a powder eye shadow applied with a thin brush dipped in water before application.  This gives the effect of eyeliner, but is less harsh, and the colour of the eye shadow can be used, but will appear darker with the addition of water, or a contrasting black, brown or dark grey may be used.

Stage lighting produces a lot of heat, particularly if spotlights are used, so do not apply make-up thickly; it will make the face perspire even more and the foundation will melt!

Grease on the face produces an unattractive shine and emphasises creases and open pores, so do not use a greasy make-up base/foundation. Apply loose translucent face powder after foundation to achieve a matt finish

Here is a colour wheel.  When considering colours for stage make-up, choose the warmer, bolder shades to avoid the make-up ‘disappearing’ into the artificial light.  Pastels will not show up nor will cool colours, so select colours from the top half of the wheel.  For example, if you normally wear lilac, choose damson, or if you wear pastel blue choose indigo!

During the summer break, the Wardrobe Co-ordinators (Janet and Rita), Treasurer (Elaine W) and MD(David!) will be getting together on the 6th August for meeting to:
a) bring up to date the choir stage wear records, and.
b) more importantly, discuss, decide and plan the implementation of a new item of stage wear.
If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please ensure they have been passed onto Janet and/or Rita before the meeting.

Stage Wear

Stage wear is a real touchy subject, especially if you have been through the 'pain' associated with deciding what the next new stage wear item should be.  If you think it is simple, just ask yourself what colour, style and material, then multiply all those choices by 30 members views!
All that said this post is primarily for anyone, to jot down some ideas or share thoughts with everyone else, as to what we should have next?  Thinking caps on.
